Ontario’s Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse
Ontario was the first province in Canada to introduce a Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse. The strategy has three key priorities:
- Coordination of community services
- Training for front-line staff
- Public education to raise awareness.
The Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat is leading the implementation of Ontario’s Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse in partnership with Elder Abuse Ontario (formerly the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse). Elder Abuse Ontario is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the prevention of elder abuse and neglect.
Elder Abuse regional consultants located across the province help promote and support efforts to address and prevent elder abuse. The consultants act as a key resource for justice and community service providers and local elder abuse networks responding to elder abuse throughout Ontario.
