2011

Live It Up

June is Seniors’ Month, a time to celebrate and honour seniors – their knowledge, experience and the contributions they make every day in communities across the province. Ontario’s 2011 theme, Live It Up, emphasizes the benefits of active, engaged living at any age.

The Ontario government is working hard to help create healthy and accessible communities.  Protecting seniors in retirement homes, taking initiatives to encourage age-friendly communities and active, engaged living, as well as providing tax credit enhancements are all steps being taken to help improve the quality of life for Ontario seniors.

June is also Recreation and Parks Month, and this year, the Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat is partnering with Parks and Recreation Ontario for our June celebrations. More information about Recreation and Parks Month, including my personal message, is available at www.recandparksmonth.ca.

I encourage Ontarians across the province to attend Seniors’ Month events.  These include award ceremonies, recognition events, socials and seniors’ information fairs.

Tell us how you Live It Up.  Share your stories about active, engaged living at any age.  Your story may be featured on our website.

Together, we can ensure that Ontario remains one of the best places in the world in which to grow older.

Sincerely,

Minister Responsible for Seniors
